Meet Ms. Abbie!
 

Hello REMS staff and families! 

I am so excited to be joining the REMS crew.  I live in the historic district of Castle Rock with my partner, Mark, who a trip leader at Renaissance Secondary School, and my step-son Jacob, who will be in first grade at REMS this year!  We live with our dog (Dahlia), cat (Bodhi), 8 chickens (Happy, Little, Peep, Goose, Chickadee, Penny, Izzy and Clementine) and fish. Our family loves to camp and be outdoors exploring new places- looking for interesting rocks, swimming, fishing, hiking, tree climbing, and hanging around in our hammock.  For fun, I am studying astrology and learning to interpret birth charts. I also enjoy cooking with vegetables from our garden, doing yoga and meditating.  

 

I grew up in Minnesota and studied Child Psychology and Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota.  During my undergrad, I worked at the University's child care center with toddlers.  I so enjoyed working with kids that I went on to get my Masters in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.  After graduate school, I moved to Denver, Colorado and taught in Early Childhood.  During that time, I enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado and got my Masters in Gifted Education.  

 

Other fun facts about me- I lived off the grid in a cabin in Ward, Colorado; I was a vegetarian for 20 years; I have traveled to Italy, Guatemala, Peru, Panama, Alaska, Hawaii and the majority of the US states; my favorite weather is rainbow weather; and I want to ride in a hot air balloon.
