Mr. Cody, Adventure Education Coordinator
I work at REMS because I'm lucky. Originally, I wanted to be a mountain guide, but after a couple of jobs working with and teaching adults, I realized that kids would be a lot more fun. College and volunteering quickly led to opportunities that I promptly took advantage of for working with youth. I was working for another youth organization when Deborah Lemmer discovered me, and I discovered Renassiance. A few months later, while in Russia, I received an e-mail from Deborah and here I am.
Really it all comes down to purpose. After high school, I took a commercial fishing job in Alaska. This turned out to be a true once in a life time experience that will always play a part in my life. While in Alaska, I had a vision/dream that still influences my daily actions. The dream involved my grandfather that had died a few years earlier. He told me, among other things, to "live with purpose" and "to keep my hands open".
My purpose has developed into helping youth to develop a love for the outdoors while facilitating a deeper sense of self and community for increased confidence and a realization of their limitless potentials. In order to change the world you have to work with the future and children are our future.
