The Elementary Discovery Program is a self-contained, center based, program for highly gifted learners grades 2-6 located regionally at four elementary school sites: Acres Green, Northridge, Pine Lane, and Renaissance. The program is designed for identified gifted learners who require intensity of instruction and acceleration beyond what can reasonably be expected from the regular school gifted programming options.

Due to the intensive nature of the Discovery Program, multiple criteria is considered in the placement process to provide evidence of need for the rigorous environment and intensity of gifted programming offered through the Discovery Program.

Information considered includes documented cognitive ability, standardized achievement data, classroom performance data, student, parent, and teacher input.

Three major criteria for placement are 1) Exceptional intellectual/cognitive ability, 2) Documented above grade level performance in multiple content areas, and 3) no below grade level performance in any content area.

Applications for the Discovery program, DCSD's Gifted and Talented program, are done at the District level through DCSD's Gifted and Talented office. Renaissance is a site that houses the Discovery program, however identification of prospective Discovery students is not done by Renaissance. For more information on the DCSD Gifted and Talented program, click here.

Parents must submit a Discovery Program Application in order to have their child considered for entry into the Discovery Program.

Discovery Programming Applications for the 2020-2021 school year will be available on the district website in the fall.
