Erin Chen

Librarian

Meet Ms. Erin!

Hi! My name is Erin Chen and I love being the “book lady” (as one kindergartner calls me) at REMS. I was born and raised in San Jose, California and after living the first 18 years of my life in the same house, I decided it was time to see the world. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California at San Diego, married my husband, Karl, who was a firefighter in the Air Force, and moved to South Carolina. There I earned my Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of South Carolina and started teaching. I have taught 2nd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and college students at a technical college. This is my first time being a librarian and I love it!

My family and I bounced around quite a bit in the 20 years since, living in Georgia, Montana, California, and overseas in BIshkek, Kyrgyzstan and on the island of Crete, Greece. Life led us here to Castle Rock in 2022 and we couldn’t be happier to live in this amazing community. We have two boys, two gerbils, and a Greek cat named Tiganita (Greek for pancake).

My passions are travel and books. I love the metaphor of books being mirrors, windows, or sliding glass doors depending on the light. Books can reflect our own life experiences, providing self-affirmation, they can be windows into the lives and experiences of others, or readers can walk through the door and be transported into another place and time.

Stumbling upon this wonderful community at Renaissance that embodies the spirit of crew has been such a blessing. I look forward to continuing to ignite a passion for reading in our crew.
