Ms. Jody Giggy, Learning Specialist
I was born in Wiggins, Co and moved to Greeley and then settled in Kersey by the time I was six. My sister, Janet and my dad, Darrel still live there today. I was raised an avid Bronco fan, starting from two years old, watching them on my Dad’s knee. We also enjoyed hiking, fishing, hunting and camping as a family and traveled around the west in our motor home. We also have a gold claim in Wyoming where we spent many summers living out of the motor home and tents and dredged for gold.
I played volleyball, basketball and was a high jumper for Platte Valley HS and graduated in 1985 and went to Lindsborg, KS to attend Bethany College. There I also participated in all three sports, my freshman year and volleyball and basketball the following years. I graduated with my degree in education in December of 1988.
I started out as a substitute teacher for a semester and then found a job teaching in Stratton, CO. I taught sixth grade, fourth grade and kindergarten for 10 years when I made the move to Renaissance. I have been at Renaissance for over 15 years teaching at every grade level.
My love of teaching started at an early age when my first grade teacher caught me helping another student understand a math problem and told me I should be a teacher. From that day on, all I wanted to be was a teacher. Originally, I was going to be a science teacher and then a math teacher, but my love of younger kids led me into elementary teaching. When I am teaching kids and talking with them, I learn so much from them, that guiding them in learning is the most rewarding experience I can ever imagine. I feel truly blessed because how many people get to wake up in the morning and do what they love every day?
Now I live in Lakewood and have an amazing dog Max that weighs 210 pounds and loves to go for walks and hang out in the backyard. I usually have a remodeling or yard project make over going during most of the breaks and help work with a friend’s home remodeling business.
