DCSD 2015 World Class Educator of the Year
Ms. Kathy Carter, Kindergarten Teacher
Hello! My name is Kathy Carter and I am privileged to be one of the two kindergarten teachers at Renaissance Magnet School. I absolutely LOVE working with young children and firmly believe that every child who enters Renaissance excited and happy to learn should leave kindergarten just as excited and enthusiastic about learning! In addition, each child must leave equipped with the academic tools to be successful in first grade. This is my commitment, responsibility, and passion.
I have been at Renaissance for over fifteen years. Today I am as enthusiastic and eager to contribute as I was on that first day. During the time at Renaissance I have taught kindergarten through second grade children, and for a time, also worked as a teacher leader, coaching teachers in the area of literacy. Now kindergarten is my greatest love!
Although a proud citizen of the USA, I was born and raised in England. After graduating from Madeley College of Education, I taught first in England and then in Colorado. Additional professional development included many courses in literacy development for young children, a Bachelor’s degree from Regis University, and I am presently pursuing a Master’s degree at Regis University with a Certificate in Reading. I love to learn and then apply that new learning in the classroom!
In addition to teaching in Douglas County ,I am a parent of three children, all of whom benefitted from the academic choice, which Douglas County provides. David, the oldest child, attended the International Baccalaureate Program during middle school and high school. Michelle enjoyed Chaparral High School, and Sandra (the youngest) attended Renaissance through eighth grade.
My interests include your children, my children and relatives, time with friends, laughing, playing, relaxing, hiking, walking, reading and just enjoying life! This summer a new favorite book has been Clutter Busting, by Brook Palmer. Now every time I go to Parker, the Goodwill store also benefits.
Before kindergarten starts each year, I visit each child in his/her home to become acquainted and begin to develop a relationship. It is also a wonderful time to chat with family members and get to know each other. Together we can ensure that every child has a wonderful first year at Renaissance School.
If you visit Renaissance, I hope you experience what an excellent academic and caring community it is for students, their families, and school staff.
